THE MIRACLES OF PROPHET MUHAMMAD

The Prophets were sent by Allah Ta'ala to mankind to guide them to the true religion. The Prophets were also attributed miracles by Allah Ta'ala to remove doubts that Prophets were not sent by Allah Ta'ala. All the Prophets came with some miracles, but Prophet Muhammad himself was a living miracle. Prophet performed miracles that could not have been possible for any other human being. Four of them are as follows:

The splitting of the blessed chest of Prophet Muhammad took place on four occasions. On one occasion, Prophet described to his companions(Radi Allaahu Anhum) his night journey (Me'raj) saying: Hazrat Jibreel(alaihis salaam) and Hazrat Mikaeel(alaihis salaam) cut my chest open, took out my heart, washed it with Zamzam water and then returned to its original place. Prophet was fully aware of the happenings, listening and seeing.

When the non-believers challenged Prophet Muhammad to perform a miracle and then only they will believe him to be a Prophet of Allah, and accept Islam. Prophetpointed towards the moon, and it split into two halves. Hazrat Abdullah Ibn Masud(Radi Allaahu Anhu) said: 'We were along with Allah's Messenger, the moon was split into two halves. One of its half was behind the mountain and the other half was on this side of the mountain. Allah's Messengersaid to us: 'Bear witness to this'.' After sometime, the moon eventually converged back to its original state. Although the non-believers saw this event, they still did not believe and called the Propheta magician.

Once, Prophet Muhammad, while returning from Khaibar, stopped at Sabha to offer Asr salaah. After the salaah, Prophetreclined his blessed head on the thigh of Hazrat Ali(Radi Allaahu Anhu). Hazrat Ali(Radi Allaahu Anhu) had not yet performed his Asr salaah. Nevertheless, Hazrat Ali(Radi Allaahu Anhu) kept sitting motionless with Prophet'sblessed head resting on his thigh, with extreme caution not to disturb the sleep of Prophet ﷺ. Meantime the sun set in the west marking the end time for Asr salaah. Hazrat Ali(Radi Allaahu Anhu) shed tears dripping on the blessed face of Prophet Muhammad, waking up Prophet ﷺ. The Messenger of Allahcame to know that Hazrat Ali(Radi Allaahu Anhu) had missed the Asr salaah. Since, Hazrat Ali(Radi Allaahu Anhu) had never delayed his salaah (qaza), Prophet Muhammad commanded the sun to reappear from the west. Hazrat Ali(Radi Allahu Anhu) performed his Asr salaah, after which the sun set again. This is the deep love and respect for Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. Hazrat Ali(Radi Allaahu Anhu) chose to sacrifice his salaah, in preference to the comfort of Prophet ﷺ.

Hazrat Buraeda(Radi Allaahu Anhu) reports that: 'when we were with Propheton an expedition, a Bedouin came and asked for a sign (miracle). Prophet Muhammadsaid: 'tell that tree that Prophetsummons it', pointing to a tree. The tree swayed to right and left, brought itself out of the ground with its roots and came in the presence of Prophet Muhammadsaying 'Peace be upon you O Messenger of Allah'. The Bedouin said: 'now! Let it go to its place again'. Prophet commanded and the tree went back to its place. The Bedouin recited the kalima and accepted Islam.
