Strongly disapproved (Makhrooh-e-Tanreeme) actions of Namaaz

STRONGLY DISAPPROVED (MAKHROOH e TAHREEME) ACTIONS IN NAMAAZ

 

'And establish prayer at the two ends of the day and in parts of the night. No doubt good deeds obliterate evil deeds. This is admonition for the persons accepting admonition.'

(Surah Hud. verse 114)

 

Makhrooh e Tahreeme is considered opposite to wajib. Those who allow themselves to such acts during Namaaz are misled and deviated. (Fatawa Razviyah)

Strongly disapproved acts in Namaaz are forbidden, and if it is committed deliberately, it is a minor sin (gunah e sageerah), and the Namaaz will have to be repeated-sajda sawh will not rectify the Namaaz. Namazees must pay attention to these issues to save their Namaaz.'

 

1.    Irrelevant movement of body parts e.g. playing with clothes, beard or the body. (Bahar e Shariyat)

2.    Adjusting the clothings e.g. rolling up the sleeves, front or back flaps of shirts, and lifting of trousers whilst going in sajda.

3.    Cracking knuckles, and criss-crossing the fingers of both hands.

4.    Placing one or both hands on waist during Namaaz. However, it is forbidden to place hands on waist even though one is not in Namaaz.

5.    Turning face entirely or partially to look around, or looking around by rotating the eyeballs without turning the face without a valid reason.

6.    Looking towards the sky by rotating the eyeballs. (Bahar e Shariyat)

7.    Keeping both ends of the handkerchief or a shawl hanging from one or both shoulders either both ends on chest side or backside or one end on the chest side and the other on the backside. However, there is no harm if one end is placed on the shoulder and the other hanging. (Bahar e Shariyat, Fatawa Razviyah)

8.    Performing Namaaz topless with only the trousers.

9.    'Performing Namaaz with unbuttoned shirt with no underclothes resulting chest and shoulder exposed. If underclothes are worn, still it will be makhrooh e tanzeehe. (Bahar e Shariyat, Fatawa Razviyah)

10. 'For men, performing Namaaz with shawl wrapped in such a way that the hands are covered. (Bahar e Shariyat)

11. 'Performing Namaaz with covered face or nose with cloth.

12. 'For men, performing Namaaz with knot tied on the hair at the back.

13. 'Performing Namaaz in clothing with pictures of living creatures. Even outside Namaaz, it is unlawful to dress in clothes bearing pictures of living creatures.

Namaaz is also deemed invalid if it is performed at a place where pictures of living creatures are mounted. (Bahar e Shariyat, Fatawa Razviyah)

14.  'Performing Namaaz if there is an extreme urge for the call of nature (urination, bowl movement or breaking wind). It is wajib to break the Namaaz if there is an extreme urge during Namaaz provided there is enough time for that Namaaz to be repeated. The call of nature has to be answered first even if one misses the congregation. Only, if there is not enough time to repeat the Namaaz, then only the Namaaz should be performed first.

15. 'Performing Namaaz in places of worship of infidels and polytheists.

16. Missing wajibaat of Namaaz e.g not keeping the back straight in ruku, on making sajda, performing sajda without sitting proper in jalsa, and bowing for ruku without standing erect properly. (Bahar e Shariyat, Fatawa Alamgiri..)

17. 'Bowing for ruku, going for sajda, raising head from sajda, and returning to qaumah position before the imaam.

18. Saying takbeer e tehreema by muqtadees hurriedly before joining the rows of jamaat. (Bahar e Shariyat, Fatawa Alamgiri)

19. Yawning intentionally. Avoiding yawning is desirable (mustahab) in Namaaz. (Bahar e Shariyat)
